📜 ""Who may worship in your sanctuary, LORD?
Who may enter your presence on your holy hill?""
Psalm 15:1 (NLT)
📋 The holy God is looking for true worshippers: those who worship him in holiness. That is why he says, "You must be holy because l am holy" (1 Peter 1:16). In today's anchor text, the Psalmist asks a searching question: "Who may worship in your sanctuary, LORD? Who may enter your presence on your holy hill?" The answer he provides is very revealing: Only godly people can enter God's presence and offer true worship in his sanctuary.
What are the marks of such godly people? First, they ".. lead blameless lives and do what is right, speaking the truth from sincere hearts" (v.2). True worshippers live as true children of light who are determined to resist sin and pursue righteousness and truth.
Second, they ".. refuse to gossip or harm their neighbours or speak evil of their friends" (v.3). True worshippers desist from misusing their tongues; they speak to edify others. Third, they don't appreciate the ways of evil people but honour "those who fear the Lord" (v.4, NIV). Fourth, they are faithful; they "keep their promises even when it hurts" (v.4). Fifth, they are kind to others who are in need: They "lend money without charging interest" (v.5).
Furthermore, true worshippers have integrity: they "cannot be bribed to lie about the innocent…" (v.5).
Are you a true worshipper of God?
Can those who know you well call you a godly worshipper?
🔑 Key Lesson: Only godly people can enter God's presence and offer true worship.
