📜 ""But we are citizens of heaven, where the Lord Jesus Christ lives. And we are eagerly waiting for him to return as our Savior.""
Philippians 3:20 (NLT)
📋 As believers, we are not of this world: we are citizens of heaven. The Apostle Paul makes this clear in today's focus verse: "But we are citizens of heaven, where the Lord Jesus Christ lives. And we are eagerly waiting for him to return as our Savior."
As citizens of heaven. we ought "… to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age, while we wait for the blessed hope-the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ" (Titus 2:12-13).
Being God's chosen people, we must refuse to conform to the standards of this corrupt world and live holy and righteous lives as Christ's ambassadors in this world. Hence, in 1 Timothy 6:11, for instance, we are urged to "… pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance and gentleness."
Unfortunately, however, there are many who claim to be believers, but are earthly-minded and behave exactly like the people of this world.
As believers in Christ, we need to constantly remember that we are aliens and strangers in this world and make up our minds to live lives that are commendably distinct from the lives of the unbelievers among whom we live.
