Psalm 19:9 (NIV)

📋 It is good and wise to fear the Lord because he deserves to be feared. It is proper for us to fear the Almighty God who created everything and wields sovereign authority over the entire universe as the King of kings and Lord of lords.

To fear God means to show profound reverence and awe toward him. That is, it involves holding God in high esteem by showing him great respect and giving him honour. So those who fear God obey his will. It is beneficial to fear the Lord because it attracts divine blessings.

For instance, Abraham feared God and didn't withhold his only son from him, so God bestowed on him uncommon blessings (Genesis 22:16-18). The fear of God also brings long life: "The fear of the LORD adds length to life, but the years of the wicked are cut short" (Proverbs 10:27).

Furthermore, safety is assured for everyone who fears God: "Those who fear the LORD are secure; he will be a refuge for their children" (Proverbs 14:26). It is important to note that fearing God is not a choice; it is a must: "Now all has been heard: here is the conclusion of the matter: Fear God and keep his commandments. for this is the duty of all mankind" (Ecclesiastes 12:13).

The sons of Eli, the priest didn't fear God and suffered for it.

How about you? Fear God, because it is wise to do so.
