📜 ""You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had.""
Philippians 2:5 (NIV)

📋 God's eternal purpose for his chosen people is that they will become like Jesus: "For God knew his people in advance, and he chose them to become like his Son. so that his Son would be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters" (Romans 8:29).

In line with God's plan, the Apostle Paul urges believers to emulate the attitude of Jesus: "You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had." Our Lord demonstrated remarkable humility. First, "he gave up his divine privileges; he took the humble position of a slave and was born as a human being" (v.6).

Another way in which Jesus showed humility was that he obeyed his Father and died like a criminal on a cross. When he was confronted with the reality of getting crucified, he agonised in prayer and submitted to the Father's will even though his actual desire at that point was to be spared the pain and shame of the cross.

He prayed submissively, "My Father! If it is possible, let this cup of suffering be taken away from me. Yet I want your will to be done, not mine" (Matthew 26:39). We ought to have the attitude of total humility because our Master Jesus admonished us to imitate his example: "Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls" (Matthew 11:29).

Are you humble in heart?
