📜 ""My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?
Why are you so far from saving me, so far from my cries of anguish?""
Psalm 22:1 (NIV)

📋 In our times of great trials, we cry out to God in anguish for help. But when help is not forthcoming, we get perplexed and many questions run through our minds. That’s exactly what David experienced during a time of great trial when he received no help in response to his cries day and night. So, he cries out: “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?

Why are you so far from saving me, so far from my cries of anguish?” He thought that God had forsaken him and felt that God was very far from him. Our Lord Jesus also went through a very dark moment on the cross and when he was overwhelmed by indescribable pain, he cried out, quoting David’s words: “…Eli, Eli, lema sabachthani?’ (which means ‘My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?’) (Matthew 27:46).

God may seem far from us in our trying moments, but we need to know that he does not forsake us; he is our everpresent help. David acknowledges God’s help in his time of severe trial: “For he has not despised or scorned the suffering of the afflicted one; he has not hidden his face from him but has listened to his cry for help” (v.24). Trust God to help you; he will never forsake you.

🔑 Key Lesson: God may seem to be far from us in times of trial, but he is ever-present with us.

🛐 Meditation and Prayer: Lord, thank you that you will never forsake me.
