Psalm 25:4-5 (NIV)
📋 Like Moses (Exodus 33:13), the psalmist deeply desires to know how God works and to understand his plans and purposes. In today's anchor verse, he says: "Show me your ways, LORD, teach me your paths. Guide me in your truth and teach me, …".
Believers can know something about God's acts--for instance, salvation and miracles-but never really know God personally or understand his ways.
But here, the psalmist gives some principles for knowing and succeeding in God's ways.
The first is to have a sincere desire for God to lead us in the ways that are right according to the standards of truth in his word (v. 4).
The second is to be willing to put our trust and hope in God "all day long" (v. 5).
The third is to humbly submit to God (v. 9), commit ourselves to godly living (v. 10) and fear the Lord.
The fourth is that since sin is a barrier to knowing God and his ways, we must remove from our lives anything that offends him or rejects his standards, then allow him to forgive and spiritually cleanse us (v. 4-8).
"If I had cherished sin in my heart, the Lord would not have listened" (66:18).
Seek the ways of the Lord and he will guide you.
