📜 ""And everyone who competes exercises self- control in all things. Thus those do so in order that they may receive a perishable crown, but we an imperishable one.""
Corinthians 9:25, (ESV)
📋 When I watch sports like wrestling, boxing and the like, 1 am taken aback by the sheer cruelty of sportsmen and women to one another just for a perishable crown or prize.
In our text, the Apostle Paul takes us to the stadium to imagine our Christian life as people seeking a prize and exerting all their strength to gain it. Not only that, playing according to the rules is also very important. If a player does not compete according to the rules, he or she is disqualified.
The Apostle Paul is also afraid that might happen to him therefore, he disciplined himself. You also need to be careful not to miss out on your crown or prize because you fail to compete according to the rules of scripture. The human rewards are perishable and become irrelevant after a while. How are you living your Christian life?
Remember that you are not seeking a prize crafted and presented by humans but God This is an imperishable crown. Be careful what your aim is as you worship God. Make God pleased with you at the end of all you do for him.
Observe the Holy rules of the Christian game.
🔑 Key Lesson: We must strive to get an imperishable crown from Jesus at the end, instead of earthly goods.
🛐 Meditation and Prayer: Lord, help me to know the true value of the prize that awaits me after I have pleased you.
