Philippians 4:9 (NIV)
📋 Those who seek to glorify God usually aim at living an exemplary godly life that others can imitate. The Apostle Paul is a notable example of a believer whose life was a model for others to emulate. He was so confident about his Christ-like life that he urged other believers to imitate him.
For instance, he told the brethren in the Corinthian church: "Follow my example, as I follow the example of Christ" (1 Corinthians 11:1). Similarly, in today's focus text, Paul admonishes the believers in Philippi to emulate him: "Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me-put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you." Only a truly godly person can say something like this.
Paul was sure that everything the believers had "learned or received or heard" from him was true, right and praiseworthy. So he confidently urged them to put these things into practice. The most remarkable thing Paul says here is that the brethren should put into practice whatever they had seen in him. This suggests that Paul lived a blameless and righteous life (1 Thessalonians 2:10).
Can you confidently exhort others to put into practice whatever they have "learned or received or heard" from you?
Can you honestly urge others to imitate whatever they see in you?
