📋 Part of a poem by an unknown author stated that "Life without trials and solutions is like a school without tests for success." Funny enough, most people want success without tests.
Sometimes, God's purpose leads us through difficult and painful seasons just like Jesus experienced in the wilderness. In today's reading, Jesus was led by the Spirit into a place of testing. Even in that hardship, he remained faithful.
Maybe God's plan for you right now involves staying in a difficult job, enduring rejection, or facing an unexpected crisis. These happenings may tempt you to ask: "God, if you love me, why is this happening to me?" And you may even want ungodly shortcuts out of the situation.
Jesus too was tempted to take shortcuts to turn stones into bread (v. 3), to test God's power (v. 6), and to gain worldly success through compromise (v. 9). However, he resisted because he knew his suffering was part of God's greater plan.
Joseph spent years in prison before stepping into his purpose (Genesis 39-41); Paul, endured beatings and imprisonment for preaching the gospel (Acts 16:22-24).
Like them, your difficult season may hold on to God's Word like Jesus did and resist the urge to escape through sinful shortcuts.
