👉🏼 (Reading: 1 Kings 17:8-16)
📜 ""And the word of the LORD came unto him, saying, Arise, get thee to Zarephath , … and dwell there: behold, I have commanded a widow .. to sustain thee.""
1 Kings 17:8-9 (KJV)
📋 To help means to provide someone with what is useful or necessary to achieve an end. In life, at one time or the other, we fall on one another for assistance. Psalm 46:1 tells us that God is the provider of the help we need.
What this means is that even when we look up to our fellow men to provide the assistance we need, it is God who ultimately makes it happen. The Psalmist says it plainly in Psalm 121:1-2: "I lift up my eyes to the hills. From where does my help come? My help comes from the LORD, who made heaven and earth."
The story in the reading for today explains it further. When Elijah needed to be fed, God told him that he should go to Zarephath where he had prepared someone to take care of him (v.8 - 9). Elijah obeyed God and went. When he met the widow, she agreed to help him.
When we find ourselves in need of help, our first point of call must be God through prayer. The persons you may approach thereafter may agree to help or not depending on whether God has worked on them to make them willing to help.
Do you need help in any way? Look up to God.
