👉🏼 (Reading: 1 Thessalonians 5:1-10)
📜 ""Now, brothers and sisters, about times and dates we do not need to write to you, for you know very well that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night.""
1 Thessalonians 5:1-2 (NIV)
📋 Nobody knows the day our Lord Jesus will come back for his chosen ones. His coming will surprise many who are asleep in their sins and worldly pursuits because "...the Lord will come like a thief in the night."
The Apostle Pau writes: "While (these) people are saying, 'Peace and safety,' destruction will come on them suddenly, as labor pains on a pregnant woman, and they will not escape" (v.3). But the Lord's coming should not surprise us, believers, because we are not in darkness like unbelievers.
Paul advises us: "So then. let us not be like others, who are asleep, but let us be awake and sober" (v.6). Our enemy, Satan, is using crafty ways of putting people to sleep. He tries to make us earthly-minded so that we will always be preoccupied with the cares of this world and the pursuit of material prosperity.
Sometimes, this evil foe brings severe trials into our lives so that we will be worried and then focus on our adversities and afflictions, forgetting the glorious hope we have in Christ. To overcome Satan and be ready for the Lord's coming, we need to make a conscious decision to stay alert and live as children of the light.
Are you awake and sober?
🔑 Key Lesson: People who are not alert and sober can be led astray by Satan.
🛐 Meditation and Prayer: Lord, give me the grace to stay awake and sober.
