👉🏼 (Reading: Numbers 27:12-22)

📜 ""And Moses spake unto the LORD, saying, Let the LORD, the God of the spirits of all flesh, set a man over the congregation, … that the congregation of the LORD be not as sheep which have no shepherd""
Numbers 27:15-17 (KJV)

📋 Many people lead families, groups, organisations and countries, and leave the scene without any succession plan. A lot of family feud had stemmed from the fact that parents died without providing a plan for the inheritance of their estate.

Even in the house of God, it is common to see head Pastors grooming their children to take over the church when they retire. But in our focus verse, we see Moses asking God for a successor, after God informed him of how he would leave the scene.

Joshua had been Moses' aide, yet he did not tell God to make Joshua his successor. He only requested that God gave the people a leader. His concern was that without a leader set over the congregation, the congregation would be like a sheep which had no shepherd (v.17).

This happened when Joshua left the scene without planning for a successor (Judges 1-2). As parents and leaders in various fields and the house of God, we need to properly leave the scene so that the people or organisations we lead will not plunge into chaos when we are gone.

Have you planned for your successor already?
If not, do so now by asking God to give you one.

🔑 Key Lesson: Every good leader plans for a successor in consultation with God.

🛐 Meditation and Prayer: Lord, help me to partner with you in choosing my successor before I leave the scene.
