📋 At birth. Jesus was called "a Saviour."
As Saviour, he came to rescue humanity from sin and its most costly result: spiritual death and separation from God. This mission includes freeing us from Satan's power, preserving us from the ungodly influence of the world, giving us victory over death and saving us from the final judgement for our offenses against God (Matthew 1:21).
According to our focus verse, the Saviour is also "Christ the Lord"--the only one worthy to be the leader and supreme authority in and over our lives. He was anointed (meaning set apart, commissioned and empowered) as the Messiah and the Lord who rules with love over his people. For this special reason, no one can claim to truly have Jesus as Saviour while not submitting to his Lordship.
That is to say, Jesus must be both the forgiver of our sins and the sole leader of our individual lives. In Luke 6:46, Jesus asked his
disciples: "And why do you call me, Lord, Lord, and do not do the things which I say?"
This question means that Jesus expects anyone who calls him Lord to show it by obeying his word--doing exactly what Jesus says. Acknowledge Jesus as both Saviour and Lord over your life today.
