The atmosphere at GEC Redemption Chapel in Mamprobi was charged with spiritual anticipation on May 24, 2026, as Rev. Justice Sallah delivered a powerful Pentecost Sunday sermon. Centered on the profound theme, "Lord Jesus, pour out the Holy Spirit on your Church," the message resonated deeply, drawing from Acts 2:29-36. Rev. Sallah eloquently underscored the pivotal significance of Pentecost Sunday, not merely as a historical event, but as the foundational moment marking the dawn of the Church age. He emphasized a crucial theological point: the Holy Spirit does not descend of His own volition, but rather was received by Jesus Christ and subsequently poured out upon believers, a divine act that continues to empower and transform. The ultimate call to action, woven throughout the sermon, became a fervent prayer topic: a collective plea to God for a fresh, invigorating outpouring of the Holy Spirit to empower the modern church to live and serve in alignment with His divine standards.

Old Testament vs. New Testament Pentecost: A Paradigm Shift

Rev. Sallah meticulously highlighted the distinct transition in the understanding and experience of Pentecost between the biblical eras, revealing a profound paradigm shift in God's interaction with humanity.

The Old Testament Origin

Historically, Pentecost originated as the second great festival in the Jewish calendar, known as Sivan. It was a joyous celebration of the physical wheat harvest, a time when the first fruits of the land were presented to God (Leviticus 23:17). Spiritually, during this era, the Holy Spirit's presence was characterized by its occasional and temporary nature. The Spirit would descend upon specific individuals, endowing them with power, wisdom, or skill, but only for the specific purpose of accomplishing particular tasks assigned by God. It was a selective anointing for designated missions.

The New Testament Dispensation

With the advent of the New Testament, Pentecost underwent a radical redefinition. It now profoundly symbolizes the spiritual harvest of souls—a continuous ingathering of individuals coming to know God personally through His boundless grace (John 6:44). Crucially, the Holy Spirit's role transformed from occasional to perpetual. Today, the Holy Spirit provides a continual presence and sustained empowerment, a divine endowment now available to all believers without distinction. This marks a new era of intimate fellowship and widespread spiritual enablement for God's people.

Six Profound Reasons Why Jesus Pours Out the Holy Spirit

The preacher outlined six core reasons why the Holy Spirit is generously given to the Church, each point revealing a facet of God's divine plan for His people.

  1. Fulfillment of God's Promise

The outpouring of the Holy Spirit serves as undeniable proof of God's unwavering faithfulness to His word. It is the majestic fulfillment of ancient prophecies, such as the one delivered through the prophet Joel (Acts 2:17-18). This demonstrates that God's promises transcend time and circumstance, remaining steadfast and true regardless of how much time passes between prophecy and realization.

  2. A Sense of Divine Presence

The indwelling of the Holy Spirit ensures that believers carry the tangible presence of Jesus wherever they go. This constant companionship serves as a powerful reminder, keeping them mindful of their conduct, words, and actions, knowing they are living temples of the Most High God.

  3. Empowerment for Ministry

The Holy Spirit is the divine engine that empowers the church to continue the redemptive work Christ initiated on earth. This includes the multifaceted expressions of ministry: teaching profound truths, preaching the Good News with conviction, bringing healing to the sick, and manifesting miraculous signs and wonders that testify to God's power.

  4. Testifying and Evangelism

The Spirit bestows upon disciples an unparalleled boldness to speak for and testify about Christ, even when confronted with formidable opposition. Rev. Sallah referenced the courageous example of Peter and John in Acts 4, who, filled with the Spirit, proclaimed the gospel fearlessly despite threats and persecution.

  5. Achieving Breakthroughs and Good Results

In moments of helplessness and uncertainty, the Holy Spirit acts as a divine guide, leading believers through intricate challenges and illuminating paths to success. The preacher shared a captivating personal testimony: before a crucial university exam, he was terribly sick and overwhelmed. The Holy Spirit, in a moment of divine intervention, revealed exactly which specific question out of twelve to study. Following this guidance, he diligently prepared that one question and, remarkably, achieved the only 'A' grade in the entire class, a testament to the Spirit's practical guidance.

  6. Empowerment for Holy Living

Ultimately, the Holy Spirit's purpose extends beyond the mere display of spiritual gifts. His deepest work is to cultivate spiritual fruit within believers—love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. This transformation honors God profoundly and serves as a powerful, living testimony to others of a life genuinely transformed by divine power.

Practical Application for Believers

Rev. Sallah moved from theological exposition to practical injunctions, offering concrete steps for believers to live out their Spirit-filled lives.

  • Guard the Temple

Recognizing that the Holy Spirit resides permanently within them, believers are called to jealously guard their bodies—their mouths, eyes, hands, and feet. This involves a constant, conscious self-interrogation: "Does this please God?" before engaging in any thought, word, or deed.

  • Self-Examination

The preacher humbly acknowledged that Christians, including pastors, are human and prone to making mistakes. Therefore, continuous prayer and diligent self-checking are indispensable tools for correcting unconscious errors and maintaining spiritual integrity.

  • Avoid "Unholy Conclusions"

When observing a brother or sister's situation, believers are encouraged to practice empathy and curiosity by asking clarifying questions rather than hastily forming ungodly assumptions or engaging in harmful gossip about matters they do not fully comprehend.

  • Seeking Fresh Outpouring

Given the reality of spiritual warfare—including competitors potentially employing dark powers in the marketplace—Christians must continuously seek a fresh, daily, and weekly outpouring of the Holy Spirit. This ongoing replenishment is essential to remain spiritually undefeated and effective in a challenging world.

The sermon culminated in a powerful moment of corporate worship and intercessory prayer. As the congregation rose to sing, they participated in targeted prayer points led by Rev. Sallah, their voices uniting in a chorus of earnest petition. Prayers were offered for a fresh outpouring of the Holy Spirit upon the universal church, specifically for Redemption Chapel, and deeply into individual lives. Petitions were raised against any internal or external resistance to the move of God's power, asking for it to be melted away by the fire of the Holy Ghost. A profound request for purification followed, asking the Holy Ghost fire to perform a deep work of cleansing and purification within the church body and individual hearts. The service concluded with a final two-minute personal prayer window, allowing each individual to bring their specific needs and relationship with the Holy Spirit before God, before the preacher offered his sincere thanks to the church session and the head pastor for the privilege to share the Word of God.
