📜 ""Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. 'Honor your father and mother'-which is the first commandment with a promise""
Ephesians 6:1-2 (NIV)
📋 In a world that promotes independence, God calls us to value the wisdom and sacrifice of our parents. Honouring parents isn't just for children. It's a lifelong practice. As children, we honour our parents through obedience; as adults, we honour them through respect, care, and gratitude.
When we express appreciation, and help them when they need us, they feel honoured. A simple 'thank you" can affirm their worth. Even when your relationship is strained with your parents honour can still be shown through kindness ang prayer.
If your parents have passed, honouring them means living out the values they instilled in you. If you have absent or difficult parents honouring them might mean forgiving, setting healthy boundaries, and choosing to reflect God's love despite past hurts.
God attaches a promise to this command - blessings and longevity. When we honour those who raised us, we reflect Christ's humility and love. Today, take a moment to call, visit, or pray for your parents. If reconciliation is needed, ask God for strength.
The way we honour them today shapes our own future relationships. It is said that our parents care for us to grow our teeth and we must care for them when they are losing theirs.
We must not forget that today we are young but tomorrow we shall be in the position our parents find themselves today.
🔑 Key Lesson: Honouring our parents is a divine command.
🛐 Meditation and Prayer: Lord, help me to honour my and any parent figures in my life.
