📜 ""You make your saving help my shield, and your right hand sustains me; your help has made me great.""
Psalm 18:35 (NIV)

📋 All of us need help in this life for one reason or another. One primary reason we require help is safety from danger and our enemies. David had many enemies, so he was often in need of help. He wisely depended on God for help and he was not disappointed at all.

In today's focus verse, he testifies about God's help, saying: "You make your saving help my shield, and your right hand sustains me; your help has made me great." As the great helper, God had become a shield to David. A shield is "a thing or person providing protection."

David sees God as his protector who saves him from all his enemies and other things that endangered his life. We too can look to the Lord for his saving help just as David did because God is committed to helping his righteous ones.

In Psalm 37:40, David affirms: "The LORD helps (the righteous) and delivers them; he delivers them from the wicked and saves them, because they take refuge in him." If we want God to be our shield, we need to take refuge in him.

He will not only protect us; he will also sustain us in our moments of weakness. From what or whom do you usually seek help? Humans may fail us, but God will never disappoint us.
Have you made the Lord your help and shield?
