👉🏼 (Reading: 1 Peter 4:7-15)
📜 ""But the end of all things is at hand: be ye therefore sober, and watch unto prayer.""
1 Peter 4:7 (KJV)
📋 ""One important biblical knowledge every follower of Christ must equip himself or herself with is the truth that the end of all things is near as the Apostle Peter records in today's focus verse: "But the end of all things is at hand: be ye therefore sober, and watch unto prayer."
It means he is reminding us to view our lives in light of Christ's certain and soon-coming return and the end of the world (James 5:8). This fact and awareness call for a life of commitment to certain Christian values outlined in our focus passage.
Firstly, we need to be sober and pray to God passionately and consistently. We must love one another deeply, from the heart (v. 8). We also have to be gracious, generous and kind to all particularly those in need (v. 9), not forgetting to serve other believers through the use of spiritual gifts as empowered by the Holy Spirit (v. 10).
Additionally, we have to spread Christ's message and serve God in the power of his Spirit, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ (v. 11). Finally, Peter urges us to remain loyal to Christ through difficulty and suffering so that we may be overjoyed when his glory is revealed (v. 12-13).
Live henceforth with the consciousness that the end of all things is near.
🔑 Key Lesson: It is important to remember that, the world will come to an end.
🛐 Meditation and Prayer: Lord, help me to live well with the end in mind.
