📋 Today's scripture makes it clear that we are not saved by good works (vv. 8-9). However, God still desires that the lives of Christians be characterised by good works: "For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do."
Good works are what we are created in Christ Jesus to do-works which God even prepared in advance for us to do. Though people will not see directly the transformation at heart when we receive Christ, our practical life will show forth what change has taken place. Let us note that we do not do these things to gain God's favour.
In Titus 3:8, the Apostle Paul advised Titus to stress what God has done for us "so that those who have trusted in God may be careful to devote themselves to doing what is good." Our good works for God also provide an opportunity to influence others for Christ.
This shows them an example of his love and goodness, thereby leading them to the point of receiving Christ's forgiveness and new life for themselves. In Matthew 5:14,16 we are described as the light of the world. We are, thus, to let our light shine before men so that they may see our good deeds and glorify God.
