📋 God's desire, particularly, for persons he chooses to work with is to see them do his will in all things. Saul was a leader who failed God by not keeping his command. As a result, God looked for someone else.
Our focus verse says: "the Lord has sought out a man after his own heart and appointed him leader of his people." That man was David. So, what made him a man after God's own heart? David was one who was always seeking a deep relationship with God and a knowledge of his purposes.
David was a man with deep spiritual hunger and passion for God. From a life of prayer and a deep relationship with God came his many psalms. In contrast to Saul, his predecessor, he desired to please God rather than to appear great in the eyes of the people.
David had an unshakable confidence in God's faithfulness and purpose for his life. He was humble though he had great success (1 Samuel 18:12-18). Even when he fell short of God's standards. David continued to show the true presence of a humble and teachable spirit.
This allowed him to accept God's judgement and correction (2 Samuel 12:7-13).
Make every effort to be a man/woman after God's own heart.
