📋 We cannot understand spiritual things with our human minds; only God can enable us to understand such things. Knowing this, the Apostle Paul prayed for the Thessalonian believers that God might grant them full understanding of two important issues concerning our walk with God.
His prayer is captured in today's anchor verse: "May the Lord lead your hearts into a full understanding and expression of the love of God and the patient endurance that comes from Christ." Unless we have a deep understanding of God's love for us, we can easily get discouraged in times of severe trials.
God loves us so much that He "did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all…" (Romans 8:32). When we really understand this, then we can confidently declare just as Paul did: ".. I am convinced that neither death nor life… nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord" (Romans 8:38-39).
We also need to understand that the endurance that comes from Christ will sustain us to finish the Christian race victoriously. So we need to pray that the Lord will strengthen us "...so that (we) may have great endurance and patience" (Colossians 1:11).
Pray for a deep understanding of God's love and Christ's perseverance.
