📜 "Then Jacob awoke from his sleep and said, "Surely the LORD is in this place, and I did not know it. And he was afraid and said, "How awesome is this place! This is none other than the house of God, and this is the gate of heaven.
Genesis 28: 16-17 (ESV).
📋 As a little naughty boy, I acted like a good boy in the presence of my parents but was a very wild and vulgar boy in their absence. One day, I sat behind the house with another boy much older than I was, having very adult and profane conversations. My friend laughed as I said all kinds of unholy things about others and then, came my father who stood silently behind us for a long time listening to all my foolish comments. My friend saw him and as a result, he laughed the loudest but did not have the space to tell me that we were under surveillance. I kept on until I suddenly turned and saw my father sternly watching me. We often feel that we are away from God's view and can do certain sinful things. But God is always around. Jacob discovers that God was present even where he was resting: "this is the house of God and I did not know". Do you put up the wrong attitude when alone or away from other Christians? Remember that everywhere is God's presence. Learn to walk before him with all sincerity.
