👉🏼 (Reading: Matthew 6:5-8)
📜 "But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you"
Matthew 6:6 (NIV).
📋 Do you make a public show of every little act of yours or pray in a loud voice to show that you are very spiritual? In today's reading, Jesus warns against praying to be seen by others. He encourages us to go into our room, shut the door, and pray to our Father in secret. This implies that God is not impressed by an open show of our spirituality, but by a sincere heart. In our daily lives, it's easy to turn prayer into a routine checklist or a public display. We might be tempted to even use fancy words, thinking they will make our prayers more effective. However, Jesus reminds us that God already knows our needs before we ask, which suggests that prayer is not about informing God, rather it's about drawing near to him. Today, find a quiet place, away from distractions and speak to God simply, honestly, and personally. No need for elaborate phrases. Just pour out your heart. If words fail, sit in silence and let his presence fill you. As you go about your day's activities, whisper short prayers in the midst of your routine while driving, working, or washing dishes. Keep your conversation with God ongoing, knowing he sees you in the secret place and will reward you with his peace.
