👉🏼 (Reading: Luke 23:27-29)
📜 But turning to them Jesus said, "Daughters of Jerusalem, do not weep for me, but weep for yourselves and for your children"
Luke 23:28 (ESV).
📋 Although God purposed to save humankind through the death of Jesus, his punishment for those who killed him was sure to come. In today's reading, Jesus was being led to be crucified. Women followed him crying about how badly he was being tortured, although they said he should be crucified. But Jesus looked back and said, “Daughters of Jerusalem, do not weep for me, but weep for yourselves and for your children. For behold, the days are coming when they will say, Blessed are the barren and the wombs that never bore and the breasts that never nursed!" (Luke 23:28-29, ESV). What Jesus was saying was that the same Roman soldiers the leaders of Israel used to kill him, would torture the people of Jerusalem soon. This is because they did not recognise God's hour of visitation. The Apostle Peter warns in 1 Peter 4:17 (ESV): "For it is time for judgment to begin at the household of God; and if it begins with us, what will be the outcome for those who do not obey the gospel of God? " We must never forget that every evil action, whether communal or individual, brings consequences. Are you treating Jesus and his will recklessly like the people of Jerusalem of his day. Beware that your actions shall be rewarded.
🔑 Key Lesson: Every evil action, whether communal or individual, brings consequences.
🛐 Meditation and Prayer: Lord, help me to live righteously in order not to face your judgement as an evil person.
